I am created in God's image. He loves me. He is proud of what He has created. And there is no way I can let Him down because I am not holding Him up. He is holding me up. I want to shine as His masterpiece. I want people to look at me and see Him. See me as He created me: in His image. Everyday I try and try but I fail miserably most of the time. But knowing that I cannot disappoint Him takes a load off my shoulders. I can worry less and concentrate on making Him smile. And showing the world that I can live in utter and complete happiness in His love!

    On The Anvil.

I've been reading a book by Max Lucado titled: On The Anvil. It's a great daily devotional. A couple of days ago the subject was about thudding or singing. Ok, so I know that doesn't make much sense, but let me give you the background story. When a potter has baked a pot in his oven and wants to make sure it is fully finished he thumps it. If it thuds it needs to go back in the oven so it can be cooked some more. If it sings it means that it is completely done baking and is ready to be used. The Master Potter is Jesus, and we are clay pots He is molding and baking to serve a certain purpose. So when he pulls us out of the over and thumps us with trials and challenges, do we thud or do we sing? Do we grumble, groan or turn away from him? Or do we praise him in the midst of the storm?

    Storm...

Stop telling God how big the storm is, tell the storm how big your God is.

The video the link leads to is of a wonderfully inspiring song. I love the lyrics. I had to watch it a couple times so they really sunk in, but it was really inspiring to me and brought me home. I hope it does the same for you.

    Seeing beyond the trees...

So this isn't from me, but it expresses my recent thoughts exactly and thought everyone would love this as a reminder...

In Joshua cpt 17 The forest was blocking Manasseh’s ability to see the entire scope of the land that had been given to him. His eye had stopped at the problems and he was focused on the wooded mountains and wilderness. He felt that his potential was being limited by his circumstances, and his thinking had become stuck in all the reasons why it was not going to work.

Isn’t it interest that our eye stops and focuses on the problems and obstacles more than the possibilities? We posses tremendous potential when we live by a supernatural mindset but our natural mind can be a limiter and a great hindrance to the things God wants to accomplish in and through our lives. Faith seeks out the possibilities and opportunities in hostile environments, whether that be sickness, or business, relationships, or leadership.

    2 Corinthians 4:18
We do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things that are unseen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Just as Manasseh had to cut down the trees in the wood in order to see the bounty of land he had been given, we need to cut down unbelief in our lives that prevents us from see the possibilities in our current circumstances.

1 Corinthians 2:9 No eye has seen, no ear has heard and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him but we know these things because God has revealed them to us by his spirit.

The life you have today is the life that God wants to work with. Don’t desire what someone else has but let your mind be lifted into the realm of possibility. Ask God to help you see what He sees and for the strength to walk through the challenges.

    The heart of a servant...

    John 13:4-5
"So He got up from supper, laid aside His robe, took a towel, and tied it around Himself. Next, He poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet and to dry them with the towel tied around Him."

Everyone knows this story. We have all heard of it a thousand times in church. Sometimes we cringe at the meaning of the act Jesus performs. Me, be as a servant to the others around me? Do I have to? But tonight I saw something new in this verse. I had never stopped to consider what Jesus must have felt in doing this. We always think He must have felt some kind of humiliation since He, the Lord of the Universe is stooping down to wash feet. But I had never considered that this act might give him joy. Tonight I cooked a simple but tasty meal for several of my friends. I spent time in the kitchen chopping, cooking, preparing, while they sat in the living room relaxing. I served them in this. But I found joy in it when I saw the looks on their faces as they ate. After a long day, a yummy meal among friends is exactly what they needed and the fact that I could provide that for them filled me with happiness. The disciples had been following Jesus around the country. They had walked a lot and had come a long way. Their feet were weary. Jesus could see this, so He gave them what they needed: a soothing wash. The look on their faces as they enjoyed the moment must have brought joy to Jesus' heart!
From now on, I don't see acts of service as a burden. I want to live everyday seeking out way to serve others and bring that special smile on their face that says "this is exactly what I needed". No thank yous required, the smile is more than enough. I want to serve the way Jesus served. Because I can now see why we should do it. Bringing joy to others ultimately brings joy to us.

    Living in the present...

So I was reading "The Shack" today. And I came across something that really struck me. Mack, the main character, is taking a walk with Jesus and they are talking. Jesus asks Mack where he spends most of his time in his mind and Mack tells Jesus that he spends it mostly in the past or in the future. But were are created to live in the present. Then Jesus says: "When I dwell with you, I do so in the present- I live in the present. Not the past, although much can be remembered and learned by looking back, but only for a visit, not an extended stay. And for sure, I do not dwell in the future you visualize or imagine. Mack, do you realize that your imagination of the future, which is almost always dictated by fear of some kind, rarely, if ever, pictures me there with you?"
How true is that? How often did I in the past imagine my future and I can't think of one time where I pictured God there with me! Right after I read that I started to wonder why I did that, and then as I kept reading I got a pretty cool answer. Jesus again is talking to Mack and he says: "It is your desperate attempt to get some control over something you can't. It is impossible for you to take power over the future because it isn't even real, nor will it ever be real. You try and play God, imagining the evil that you fear becoming reality, and then you try and make plans and contingencies to avoid what you fear."
It's so true! And thinking about it I know exactly what I fear. I fear being alone. Some women aspire to be brilliant businesswomen, or astronauts, or own their own business or other grand things. What I really want is a family of my own. I want to work with youth. I don't need to be famous or super successful. I want to serve others in the background. I want to be the mom who is there for her kids, I want to be a role model for the youth I lead. I want to serve God in the little things in life. Those are the things that have meaning to me. But because this dream depends on a counterpart (aka a husband), it's such a fragile dream. I fear I won't meet the right man.
I need to focus on the here and now. I need to focus on my walk with Christ. I want to imagine my future from time to time, but I want Christ to play a major role in it!
    God is good!

    Psalm 26: 2-3
"Test me, Lord, and try me; examine my heart and mind. For Your faithful love is before my eyes and I live by Your truth."

I love this verse. It reminds me to constantly be checking my heart and mind and see if there's anything I need to get rid of. But there is something more in this verse. It's not just David standing before God and saying "Look how pure I am". No. I think David had too much humility before God to do that. I see it more as an invitation for God to come in and do some spring cleaning. David is saying "Take a look at me Lord and tell me what I need to amend. Tell me what needs to go, what things I need to sort out, what things need to be amended, and what things need to be worked on." I need to remember to open the door to the closet of my life to God more often so he can sift through my junk and clean me out. How will you know about certain sins you may not have realized you had committed unless you allow God to pull them out and show them to you. How can you get rid of something you don't know is there?

    Psalm 27:14
"Wait for the Lord; be courageous and let your heart be strong. Wait for the Lord."

I love the way the author highlighted the important part of this verse by repeating it. He can't stress enough how important it is for you to wait upon the Lord. And until He comes, and come He will, you need to be courageous and strong. Your strength comes from Christ, so rely on Him in everything!

    Psalm 30: 5
"For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor, a lifetime. Weeping may spend the night, but there is joy in the morning."

There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Always a silver lining to be found in God!

    Isaiah 42:6-7
"I, the Lord, have called you for a righteous purpose, and will hold you by your (right) hand. I will keep you, and I make you a covenant for the people and a light to the nations, in order to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those sitting in darkness from the prison house."

I love this passage because God is saying that we each have a purpose in life; a purpose He designed for us. He has a plan, and His plan is to reach out to those around us who cannot see how wonderful our Maker truly is! I especially like the part about how He holds our right hand. When you go into battle with a sword, you generally wield it with your right hand. But if God is holding your hand when you go into battle how can you wield your sword? How can you strike at the enemy? You can't, for the simple reason that God is doing it for you. All things are done through Christ; through God. He is holding our sword when we go into battle. We just need to grip His hand and follow Him; trust Him. If we stick close to God in the hard times; in the battles, we have nothing to fear. He is looking out for us. He does not want harm to come upon us. So he fights the enemy for us. All we have to do is hold His hand!

    Psalm 1: 1-3
"How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path of sinners, or join a group of mockers! Instead his delight is in the Lord's instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. He is like a tree planted in streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers."

These few verses are packed full of wonderful messages! What a great way to start a book! A righteous man delights in the Lord's instruction. This makes complete sense! God has my best interest at heart, so anything He instructs me to do is only for my benefit, no matter how hard the task may seem: the outcome is full of goodness and blessings. By meditating on His instruction day and night I am in a way feeding myself. I am acquiring wisdom and knowledge for when I do have to face difficult times. And I also love the part of the verse that speaks of a tree yielding its fruit in season. I love that thought. Sometimes we expect us to be fruitful all year round. But we also need a time of learning and renewing from God. Right now I believe God has placed me in a season of learning, but at some point that will come to an end so that I may bear fruit for His Kingdom! How exciting a prospect that is!

    Wise words, Belief and Faith...

    Proverbs 25: 11-12
A word spoken at the right time is like golden apples on a silver tray. A wise correction to a receptive ear is like a gold ring or an ornament of gold"

A few things stand out for me in this passage. The words "right time", "wise correction" and "receptive ear".
A word may be essentially wise, but for it to have any affect, it must be spoken at the appropriate time. But how do we know when it's the right time? I think it all comes though prayer. God will lead you. It all comes back to being in constant contact with Him. If you are always connected to Him in prayer, and through reading His word, He will always be with you. His words will always be on your mind. His wisdom will be imparted to you and you will know when the time to speak is right.
The other thing I noticed is that the writer does not say "a correction"; rather he inserts the word "wise" in there. Let's not go about correcting people for the sake of it. Let's make sure that we are correct in the way we are thinking, let's make sure we are approaching them with the right attitude, let's make sure God agrees with our needing to correct the person.
And lastly, the writer talks about a "receptive ear". A seed that falls on barren ground will yield no fruit. If you rebuke someone who is not open to being corrected, and who really do not believe themselves to be at fault, they will not listen and your rebuke, though wise, will go to waste. Perhaps there is a way to make your friend more receptive to a gentle correction? Any thoughts?

    Mark 9:24
"Immediately the father of the boy cried out, 'I do believe! Help my unbelief.'"

I struggle with this so much. I have faith, but do I really have faith? And then I begin to question myself. This is my prayer. Lord I believe in You. I believe in all the things You are doing and all the things You can do. But help me with my unbelief. Help me with the little doubts that sneak their way in. Help with with my worry.

    Mark 9:29
"And He told them, 'This kind can only come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.'"

Jesus says this to his disciples after they as Him why they can not cast out demons. Jesus had just cast a demon out of a young boy after the disciples had tried and failed to. But I want to look at this verse on a larger scale, not just the one of spiritual warfare. I think it is so true in every aspect of life. If a particular struggle comes up, it really can only be resolves with much prayer and perhaps fasting too! Your Bible and prayer are your weapons for battle. How do you expect to win a fight if you don't have your weapons with you?!
